PILLAR 02 · TRUST & GOVERNANCE

You're not liable because of your size. You're liable because of your data.

If your business holds customer, financial, employee, or health information, you carry real security and compliance responsibilities — regardless of headcount. TU Compliance turns those obligations into a documented, living program that actually matches how your business operates. Not ready for a full compliance program yet? Start with TU Essentials and get your devices properly managed first.

Massachusetts WISP

Need a WISP for your business?

201 CMR 17.00 requires most Massachusetts businesses to keep one. We build, document, and maintain yours — audit-ready. Plans start at $500.

SECURITY VS. COMPLIANCE

Two different questions. You need answers to both.

Who does this apply to? In Massachusetts, any business that stores personal information about a state resident is required to maintain a Written Information Security Program (WISP) under 201 CMR 17.00. Tax preparers have IRS WISP obligations. Healthcare-adjacent practices carry HIPAA responsibilities. Cyber-insurance carriers increasingly require documented controls before they’ll pay a claim. Small doesn’t mean exempt.

A compliance document that doesn’t reflect your real environment is worse than useless — it’s evidence against you. That’s why TU Compliance is built on top of an actually secured environment, and why documents are written to match how you truly operate.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

A living program, not a one-time binder.

THE PROCESS

What working with TU Compliance looks like.

Assess

We map your data, obligations, and current controls against what your industry and Massachusetts law expect.

Close the gaps

We fix the real security gaps first — because paperwork about an insecure environment protects no one.

Document

You receive a WISP and policy set written to match your actual operations, in plain English your team can follow.

Maintain

Compliance stays alive: training, reviews, updates when your business changes, and annual reassessment.

What you receive

A complete, current WISP and policy library · a prioritized security roadmap · training records · evidence you can hand to an insurer, regulator, or enterprise client · one accountable partner who keeps it all current.

What we won't claim

We don’t “certify” legal compliance, and no one can guarantee a breach will never happen. What we do is make sure your protections are real, your documentation is honest, and your position is defensible.
COMMON QUESTIONS

Compliance, answered plainly.

Yes — if you store personal information about even one Massachusetts resident, 201 CMR 17.00 requires a Written Information Security Program, regardless of business size. Tax preparers additionally have federal WISP requirements from the IRS. Most small businesses we meet are covered by at least one of these and don’t know it.
A compliance assessment inventories what data you hold, which laws and contracts apply to it, and how your current controls compare — producing a prioritized gap list. Ours covers data mapping, technical controls, policies, vendor risk, backup and recovery, and employee practices.
You can, but a template that doesn’t match your real environment can hurt you in an audit, claim, or lawsuit. Regulators and insurers compare what your documents say to what you actually do. We write programs that reflect — and improve — your real operations.
Compliance is maintained, not completed. We keep training current, update policies when your business or the rules change, review incidents, and reassess annually — so your program is always defensible, not just dated.
